This neighbourhood is a favourite area where a relaxed atmosphere prevails, yet it´s full of life. The area has the city’s best prices when it comes to restaurants and you will find many different kinds of cuisine to choose from, especially food from Asia and the Middle East.
In East Village there are also many small shops, bars, clubs and weekend markets.
The main thoroughfare is St. Marks (8th Street) from Astor Place to Tompkins Square Park (Ave A), but don´t forget to stroll into the nearby streets as well.

Still, there are some of the small and cozy bookstores left in New York. This specializes in design, art and architecture, but also sells a variety of monthly magazines and newspapers.
